Star Tribune April 8, 2000 Ventura reiterates opposition to
abortion wait period But governor says he'll deal with the House's "informed-consent" bill if and when
it reaches his desk.
Gov. Jesse Ventura on Friday repeated his opposition to a 24hour waiting period for abortions, casting further doubt surrounding a bill that passed the House early Thursday, purportedly with the governor's assent. Answering a caller's question on his weekly radio show, Ventura said he has "a problem with making rules for one sex and not another" and with a waiting period in particular. Ventura also said he would deal with the Housebill, which requires that specified information be given to prospective abortion patients, if and when it gets to his desk. April 8, 2000 Gov. Jesse Ventura State Capitol St. Paul MN 55101 Dear Gov. Ventura, If a woman signs a contract and shortly afterwards realizes that it was not a wise idea, she has the option of revoking it. If a woman decides to have an abortion and later decides it was not a wise idea, it is a mistake that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Those who oppose informed consent are extremists who do not really have the best interest of the woman at heart. Do not fall for their deceptions. Sincerely, Ross S.
