PSALM 23

(From the "New American Lower Standard Version")

The Lord is my shepherd...
Of course, I don't really need a shepherd, since I know the way.
I shall not want...
If I ever do, I'll be sure to look for You.
He makes me lie down in green pastures...
Maybe when I have more time.
He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul...
Some day I'll have to think about what that means.
He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake...
I'll consider that option if it can be made practical enough.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death...
Never heard of it. No one talks about death these days; we're actually very health oriented.
I will fear no evil...
I keep my distance from evil anyway. I take proper precautions, have a good security system and complete insurance coverage.
For You are with me, Your rod and staff comfort me...
I guess it's comforting to have You with me just in case I need something. The staff is probably acceptable but I can't imagine why You need a rod.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies...
Now we're talking!
You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows...
I'll buy that.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life...
At a distance, however, please.
And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever...
Sounds boring, but I suppose it's better than the alternative. Still, I'm in no rush to get there.
