The spread of Wafting began with the migratory Swedish Gypsies who adopted the game with great enthusiasm and added the sniver. The direction of their migration was determined by the direction of the sniver's fall. These creative wanderers, at various times in their history made use of balls, cookies, and other cultural concoctions to give purpose to their travels, at the same time giving rise to such colorful expressions as "That's the way the sniver topples."
