Subject: A good start!
Congratulations on recognizing and highlighting academic censorship (“Hamline Created Its Emmer
Mess” 12/17/2011). Having cracked the door, now look all the way in and realize that this practice is
nearly universal. The schools that did not even give Emmer a response, taking a cue from your
headline, are sighing in relief instead of saying, “We can and will do better!” Because academics are
human, those whose ideas happen to be in power often deny alternative ideas a place at the table.
OK, Star Tribune, be an example!!
