From: Ross Olson [ross{at}rossolson.org] Sent: Thursday, March 22, 2012 To: Editor Star Tribune (opinion{at}startribune.com) Subject: Evil as a teacher David Brooks got it exactly right that we are all prone to evil (“A Monster Lurks Within Every Soul” 3/21/2012). He only left off the part that makes it possible for us to face our precarious position without despair – the Biblical solution! The most common response is to irrationally assume we are invulnerable or unaffected. But realistic assessment of our own hearts ought to lead us to recognize our helplessness and turn to our Creator. If so, we receive the help He offers -- but will never force on us -- and the reality of evil has ironically put us on the path towards goodness. Ross S.
