From: Ross Olson [ross@rossolson.org] Sent: Monday, October 06, 2008 To: Editor Star Tribune (opinion@startribune.com) Subject: Financial crisis It seems very easy to blame the financial crisis, along with everything else wrong in the universe, on President Bush, but don't forget that we have also had a Democratic controlled congress for 2 years. However, at the root is a deterioration of the moral consensus that made America what is was, compared to much of the rest of the world. Even though not all citizens have taken God seriously, there was a shared sense that there are indeed absolute rights and wrongs, that even if we can get away with something now we will some day stand before our Creator, and that service to others is higher than selfishness. As this understanding is lost, the fabric of our society is unraveled as surely as if attacked by terrorists. Ross S. Olson Send comments to me at ross{at}rossolson.org The URL for this document is |
