Oath on the Koran
Rep. Ellison's desire to take his oath of office on the Koran rather than the Bible brings out many confused opinions. Many seem to think that any religious involvement in public life violates the Constitutional "establishment of religion" clause, when in fact the founders only intended to prohibit the establishment of a national church.
It would astound these intelligent but mis-educated people that Christianity was considered to be the essential foundation of the new nation. See www.wallbuilders.com. In contrast, has representative government and freedom of religion arisen spontaneously in any Muslim country? Indeed, we might even ask, is it compatible?
