From: ross{at}rossolson.org Sent: Tuesday, September 19, 2023 To: opinion{at}startribune.com Subject: Overdose Crisis “Overdose crisis is a moral crisis for society” by Howard Dotson (Star Tribune, September12, 2023) identifies the casualties as “deaths of despair.” Where does despair come from? Present circumstances? Yes, but even more important is the lack of meaning! Where does meaning come from? If I am a random collection of molecules without purpose or hope, the logical response is despair. But if I am a loved creation, even if I am facing the consequences of my own and others’ decisions, then I can face the present to get to a glorious future. This can happen because a solution has been provided by my Creator to restore my relationship with Him, if I respond to Him. Or maybe you can’t print that in the StarTribune. Ross S.
