From: Ross Olson <ross{at}rossolson.org> Sent: Wednesday, July 29, 2020 To: opinion{at}startribune.com Subject: Racism Professor Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer humbly admits to his own racism (“I am a racist. So is Katherine Kersten. She can't admit it.” Star Tribune 7/29/2020.) But after detailing all the subtle manifestations of this evil, he ends with the feeble, “And in our present political context we must resist all efforts by those who use implicit and explicit racism to divide us and to mobilize angry voters. Instead, let’s work together to dismantle racism in all its destructive forms.” What we need is not just trying harder, we need transformed hearts! I know a source for that miracle, but it is not politically correct to mention it – the power of God! Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore anyone who is in Christ is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” How does that work? After repentance we can accept Divine forgiveness. Then by committing our lives to Jesus Christ, with the help of his Spirit, we can begin to obey the greatest commandments of all. Mark 12:30-31 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Since every human being is created in the image of God, it then logically follows, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This is what Martin Luther King, Jr. believed. Maybe you don’t like it, but what’s your solution? Ross S. Olson Richfield MN 55423 Send comments to me at ross{at}rossolson.org The URL for this document is |
