From: Ross Olson [ross.olson{at}earthlink.net] Sent: Friday, August 13, 2004 8:39 PM To: Editor Star Tribune (opinion{at}startribune.com) Subject: Uninformed? Why did Jeffrey Kahn not mention adult stem cells in his commentary on embryonic stem cell research ("Stem Cell Policy: A Stark Choice" 8/13)? He is not one of the uninformed masses who depend on the media, but a prominent bioethicist at -- of all schools -- the University of Minnesota, when research has shown adult stem cells to be much more promising than embryonic stem cells for the treatment of disease. I can only conclude that there is a conspiracy of deception, perhaps because the use of embryonic stem cells provides a "moral" use for aborted fetuses and continues to confuse people regarding the value of human life. Put frankly, getting a cure from embryonic stem cells is like killing for organ transplantation. And tragically for those who fixate on cures, there is a better way available! Ross S.
