Cover-up vs Justification – Which is worse? The Catholic hierarchy is clearly responsible for cover-up of sexual abuse by clergy and relocation of offenders without warning the new parishes. But if so, then academics need to be held responsible for going beyond that and actually defending “intergenerational sex,” as the American Psychological Association did in publishing a paper by Dr. Bruce Rind of Temple University and Philip Tromovitch of University of Pennsylvania, which concluded that adult child sexual relationships are not necessarily harmful. Talk Show host Laura Schlessinger called attention to the study which eventually led to Congress condemning both the study and the American Psychological Association’s endorsement of it. A book by Judith Levine, Harmful to Minors: The Perils of Protecting Children From Sex, published by University of Minnesota Press in 2002, stated that the harm is in over-reaction by other adults about the acts or relationships. The dust jacket on Levine’s book states, “Sex is a wonderful, crucial part of growing up and children and teens can enjoy the pleasures of the body and be safe, too.” Should there not be responsibility for this sort of aiding and abetting of child sexual abuse?
