Introductions to Lent Dramas

[A large cross should be set up that the actors will look up at and perhaps point towards as they enter.]

Week 1:John

As preparation for Holy Week, we want to hear from several individuals who were powerfully affected by those events. Their reactions had a lot to do, not only with what really happened, but also with what was going on within their own hearts -- much as it is with people today. Perhaps we can see ourselves and other people we know in those familiar stories, especially if we hear from them in their own words.

When Jesus was crucified, it seemed to his friends that all was lost. But then He rose again from the grave and everything suddenly changed, although it did not necessarily become any simpler. One of the first of the disciples to know about the events of that day was the Apostle John, who now comes to tell us his story.

Week 2: Centurion

As preparation for Holy Week, we want to hear from several individuals who were powerfully affected by those events. Their reactions had a lot to do, not only with what really happened, but also with what was going on within their own hearts -- much as it is with people today. Perhaps we can see ourselves and other people we know in those familiar stories, especially if we hear from them in their own words.

So we now take you to the city of Jerusalem to that time just after Jesus was crucified and before His resurrection...to hear from the Centurion.

Week 3: Pilate's Wife

As preparation for Holy Week, we want to hear from several individuals who were powerfully affected by those events. Their reactions had a lot to do, not only with what really happened, but also with what was going on within their own hearts -- much as it is with people today. Perhaps we can see ourselves and other people we know in those familiar stories, especially if we hear from them in their own words.

So we now take you to the city of Jerusalem to that time just after Jesus was crucified ...to hear from the Wife of Governor Pilate.

Week 4: Peter

As preparation for Holy Week, we want to hear from several individuals who were powerfully affected by those events. Their reactions had a lot to do, not only with what really happened, but also with what was going on within their own hearts -- much as it is with people today. Perhaps we can see ourselves and other people we know in those familiar stories, especially if we hear from them in their own words.

So we now take you to the city of Jerusalem to that time just after Jesus was crucified and before His resurrection...to hear from Simon Peter.

Good Friday: Judas

Jesus was crucified after an extraordinary series of events. The lives of those most intimately associated with that outcome have been frozen in our minds as examples to be either copied or avoided. In them we can sometimes see our own characteristics, for better or for worse.

There is one whom we perhaps have the most trouble understanding and it is his life we now look into as we hear from Judas.

Easter: Mary Magdalene

For several weeks we have been hearing from several individuals who were powerfully affected by the events of Holy Week. Their reactions had a lot to do, not only with what really happened, but also with what was going on within their own hearts -- much as it is with people today. Perhaps we can see ourselves and other people we know in those familiar stories, especially if we hear from them in their own words.

When Jesus rose from the dead, the first ones to see him were the women and first of all was Mary Magdalene. Let's hear her story.

All these dramas may be used and shared freely. If you do use them, I would be interested in knowing about it and hearing comments.
